The Journey to SG

The Journey to SG

We have moved a lot over the years. In chatting to my 9 year old we realized he has lived in 6 houses over his lifetime. With our 6 year old having lived in 4. This was not planned it just, happened.

Our latest move having gone from Oamaru to Cromwell. This house I can imagine being a forever home. However, track record to go by, anything is possible.

Oamaru was our base for 6 years and in that first year our home staging business was born. Along with the birth of our youngest. Being a mum and trying to find a job that fits into a lifestyle I desired wasn't easy, it seemed easier at the time to create my own flexibility and lifestyle.

It began with an idea, a business plan and winging it as we went. Six months later and a few (few meaning quite a few) purchases later and we launched our business. We completed our first stage. It wasn't great but it was a great starting point and learning curve. The house sold instantly and for well above asking. We then hit covid lock down. It was less than ideal but a good time to reflect and improve.

Once out of lockdown things moved rather slowly. Or not at all. My husband having had his reservations said maybe it was time to call it a day. However, I was determined to make it work. The following month we had 3 enquires within a week and I just knew this was what we needed. And also knew my gut was right.

Not without its challenges, juggling kids, pick up times, staff, late night sometimes until 2am staging and many, many "please don't touch anything" moments to my kids "don't touch the beds I've just steamed them". Nearly 5 years on, consistent growth every year, many challenges and learning moments we were in a position to sell the business and make the move to Central Otago to be closer to family.

The new beginning has been a refreshing start for our family, not without its given challenges. We love the added dose of sunrays, the walkways, the mindsets, the friendliness of the people, the lake, the mountains, and most importantly being closer to family.

Sydney George was a natural progression for me as a fashion, interior, architecture and design lover. Taking what I had learnt from our first run in business into this journey has been rewarding, fun and lovely to see the growth both personally and professionally. I am excited for this next chapter and learning as we go and grow. Thank you for coming along for the ride.
